Each month, Altenew hosts a challenge on their blog. The challenge is to come up with a project based on either the challenge colors or the image or both. This month's color palette of pinks and reds was really inspiring to me so I decided to play along. Read on to see how I interpreted Altenew's color challenge for January.

Altenew Education Certification Program level 2 challenge

Here it is....the final challenge of level 2. So far I have taken 20 Altenew Academy classes and made 37 cards. This has been a really great experience to improve my card presentation and to learn different techniques. For this challenge I had to make a home decor project using inspiration from some of the 20 classes I have taken. I decided to make some prints in the spirit of John Audubon’s nature prints. I had been planning on purchasing some Audubon original book plates but these are really expensive. The book plates have really simple images and have just a flower or birds with the species name in typeface. Altenew stamp sets have beautiful detailed images that I thought would work great for this project. Read on for how I put together these home decor pieces. If you have questions on the Altenew Educator Program, please let me know as I would be happy to talk about my experiences so far. I’ve included affiliate links in this post for the items I used to make these pieces. If you use these links to purchase the items, I may get a small commission at no cost to you. Thank you for your support.

Color theory in action

1/27/2019

Altenew Color Your Day

Today’s card was an exercise in instituting color theory. The instructor in the Altenew Color Your Day class follows a simple formula to determine amounts of different colors: 70-20-10. The colors in the formula could be complementary meaning that they are opposite on the color wheel, analogous meaning that they are next to each other on the color wheel, or part of a triad meaning that the three colors form a triangle within the color wheel. Adding a neutral somewhere within the formula helps to balance the colors. For this card I used analogous colors yellow and green which are next to each other on the color wheel and balanced them out with a soft cool grey. Please read on for how I made this card today using color theory and Altenew’s Bold Blossom stamp set.

Color as a focal point

In the mood for color

For the latest installment of my Altenew Educator Certification Program, I was inspired by a class called, In the Mood for Color. In this class, the instructor discussed how different colors evoke certain moods, I wanted to explore this so I made two cards that contain the same elements and design but in different colors. I chose yellow which signifies energy and blue which signifies calm. I used Altenew Peony Bouquet stamp set to build the flower which will be the main design element on the card. Please read on for how I assembled this card. And leave me a comment about which color you like the best.

Using inking as a focal point

1/1/2019

This is my last installment for the Altenew Education Certification level one courses. This is the tenth card I have made for Level One certification. I have been very inspired by the classes I took from Altenew Academy and was glad to have a push to restore some crafty mojo. I also got some great ideas of how to use the stamps, dies and inks in my stash to make some different designs. For today’s card, I used Distress Ink blending as a background and die cut a window to expose the colors. Read on for how I put together this simple card.

AECP Build a Scene Class

For the latest installment of my journey with Altenew Educator Academy, I used the Under the Cherry Blossom Tree stamp set to build a scene. The build a scene class had a lot of great ideas of how to put together stamps to create a vignette. The stamp set I’m using today has some lovely blossoms that would add an air of elegance to any scene. Please read on for how I assembled this card.

Using Layering Stamps

All About Layering 2

This is my second course for Altenew’s AECP certification program. The second course showcased many of Altenew’s layering stamp sets. Many of the layering stamp sets are very large florals and due to the intricate designs, can really be the focal point of a card. For today’s post, I am building a sympathy card with the large layered hydrangea image being the focus of the card. Thank you for stopping by and read on for how I put this card together.

Altenew Educator Certification Program

11/27/2018

Earlier this week I got some great news that my application for the AECP was accepted. I’m a big fan of Altenew products and have been wondering how to take my crafty passion to the next level. The AECP seems like a good marriage of increasing my capacity for learning stamping, connecting me with other crafty people and giving me an outlet to teach others about stamping and creating.
To learn about the journey and my first submissions for AECP, read on.

Altenew July Challenge

7/27/2017

Over on the Altenew blog this month, the inspirational image really resonated with me. I love roses; absolutely my favorite flower. Roses remind me of summer and my grandfather who had an amazing knack for getting them to grow; his secret was composted manure.
